Vacation mode: ON. Fitness routine: …Still ON!
Just because you’re sipping margaritas on a beach or exploring ancient ruins doesn’t mean your fitness goals have to take a vacation too. With a little creativity (and a resistance band stuffed in your suitcase), you can stay active while still having tons of summer fun and adventure!
Here’s how to keep moving without missing out on the fun.
1. Portable Workouts: Your Gym Fits in Your Suitcase
Who needs a fully equipped gym when you’ve got bodyweight exercises and tiny-but-mighty fitness tools?
- Resistance Bands – These stretchy wonders can tone your arms, legs, and glutes anywhere. Hotel room? Park bench? Beach? Perfect.
- Jump Rope – A killer cardio session in 10 minutes flat. Bonus: You’ll feel like a kid again.
- Your Gym App – Use the workouts in your gym app (we use SugarWod) and modify as needed. Bonus: talk to your coach about checking in from vacation and get your Committed Club class check-in points!
Pro Tip: Pack lightweight gear so you’re not lugging around dumbbells or kettlebells (unless you’re into that kind of vacation struggle and really want to meet some new friends at airport security.)
2. Hotel Room Workouts: No Gym? No Problem.
Your hotel room is a secret fitness studio waiting to happen. Try this quick, no-equipment routine:
- 20 Squats – With or without weights.
- 15 Push-ups – Modify on your knees or go full Rocky Balboa.
- 30-second Plank – Switch between high, low and side planks.
- 10 Burpees – Because you secretly LOVE them.
- 20 Reverse Lunges – or 20 sec hold at the bottom for extra burn
Repeat 3 rounds, then celebrate with a walk, activity and healthy snack. It’s all about balance, right?
3. Active Travel: Sightseeing = Cardio in Disguise
Skip the tour bus and explore like an athlete.
- Walk or Bike Everywhere – You’ll see more, save money and burn calories.
- Hike a Scenic Trail – Check out the views, bring some snack and take some pics.
- Swim – Ocean, pool, lake, whatever. Splashing around counts as cardio.
- Dance– Nightclub, beach party, or just you in your room—moving is moving!
Bonus: Many cities offer running tours—you get a guided jog past major landmarks. Culture + cardio = genius.
4. Eat Well (But Still Enjoy Local Flavors)
You didn’t travel across the world to eat sad salads. Balance is key:
- Start with Protein – Eggs, yogurt, or local seafood keep you full longer.
- Share Indulgent Dishes – Taste everything without overdoing it.
- Stay Hydrated – Especially if you’re indulging in vacation cocktails (hydration helps with hangovers too—just saying).
5. Mindset Shift: Fitness is Part of the Adventure
Instead of stressing over missed workouts, make movement part of the fun.
- Try a Local Class – Surfing in Bali? Yoga in India? Capoeira in Brazil? Do it!
- Challenge Friends/Family – Who can do the most push-ups at the Grand Canyon? (Loser buys drinks.)
- Track Steps – Turn sightseeing into a step-count competition. 20,000 steps = extra dessert.
The best vacations leave you refreshed—not guilty. Stay active in ways that feel good, indulge smartly, and remember: Fitness is a lifelong journey, not a vacation interruptus.
Now go explore, sweat a little, and make amazing memories!
